let’s face it: we’ve all got better things to do with our time than wait at a luggage carousel. particularly if you’re flying to a new city for just a few nights, there are tons of more exciting places you could be (think: happy hour).

running a coast-to-coast business means we’re used to jetting off for work, and we’re become pretty good at fitting all the essentials to look put together in one tiny cabin bag.

whether you’re flying out for a romantic weekend, midweek work trip or Las Vegas bachelorette party, here are the packing tips you need to keep your luggage to a minimum (and avoid the lines at your destination).

1. choose a colour palette

this will help you decide what clothes, make up and jewelry to pack. your colour palette will depend a lot on your personal style, your colouring and the season.
pro-tip: keep it simple with neutral colours, plus a pop of colour in your shoes, coat or manicure.

2. plan your outfits

it’s so tedious, but so necessary. take an hour the night before you have to travel and think about what you’ll be doing, and what types of outfits you’ll need. lay everything out on your bed and match up outfits based on your activities. bonus tips if you can re-use accessories and shoes for more than one event.

3. roll your clothes

trust us: don’t fold, roll. folding makes creases, rolling doesn’t. plus it’s a space saver.

4. pack your cosmetics

gather together all the make up and skincare you’ll need for your trip, choosing miniatures where possible. a clear toiletries bag is a great buy, as you’ll be able to skip transferring everything to one of those annoying sandwich bags at TSA.

5. scent saver

a perfume atomizer like travalo is great for traveling. just pump some of your favourite perfume into the travel-friendly bottle, and you’re ready to spritz and go!

6. cotton pads

ok, we stole this one from Fleur de Force (below) but we’re sticking to our guns, because it’s totally ingenious. pop a cotton pad in your pressed powder compacts to stop them from getting all smashed up during transit. and duh, this also works for eyeshadows and blushes. it also keeps the mirrors nice and clean. no more broken Nars blush staining your suitcase, yay!

7. pack a scarf

our final tip? bring a cute scarf with you. a scarf is the travelling gal’s best friend – use it if you get cold at the airport, or as a pillow to catch some ZZZs on the plane. if you’re heading somewhere hot, it can even act as a poolside coverup. perfecto.
