vp, marketing, sales + beauty line of THE TEN SPOT® reports to the Chief Operations Officer and serves as THE TEN SPOT’S most senior marketing leader. A key member of the leadership team, the VP of Marketing, Sales + Beauty Line is accountable for overseeing the development and implementation of bold marketing strategies that expand THE TEN SPOT’s brand, increase bar traffic and sales, as well as be accountable for new bar sales and the development and promotion of the in house beauty line.

purpose

the vp of marketing, sales + beauty line reports to the chief operations officer and serves as the ten spot’s most senior marketing leader. a key member of the leadership team, the vp of marketing, sales + beauty line is accountable for overseeing the development and implementation of bold marketing strategies that expand the ten spot’s brand, increase bar traffic and sales, as well as be accountable for new bar development and sales and promotion of the in house beauty line.

using their technical expertise and franchising savvy, the vp of marketing, sales + beauty line is accountable to develop the ten spot’s enterprise-wide marketing strategy.  the marketing strategy is a comprehensive plan that includes: brand development; social/digital/print/media/in-store campaigns to drive brand recognition, traffic and sales; promotion planning and execution; and all related budget planning and management.  in creating the marketing strategy, the vp of marketing, sales + beauty line draws upon data/insights from market research, forecasts, competitive analysis, campaign results and consumer trends.  in addition, the vp of marketing, sales + beauty line seeks and applies input from key stakeholders, including franchisees, cross-functional peers and external advisors.

duties for this role include

brand:

  • intuitively grasp the essence and personality of the 10spot brand and translate it to all marketing strategies and tactics.
  • collaborate with the founder & ceo and the coo to articulate and, as required, evolve the 10spot brand.
  • monitor, approve, and produce (or arrange the production of) all creative work including photography, print and signage, brand artwork, product packaging, point of sale items, digital assets and web design.
  • articulate brand standards and manage adherence to the standards across all operations.

competitive insights:

  • fueled by curiosity and analytical thinking, maintain strong insights on current and emerging
  • competitive practices.  this includes collecting and analyzing data on macro and micro market trends, and the services/ pricing/ branding/ expansion of existing and new competitors. 
  • translate competitive insights to proactive marketing and sales strategies /tactics at an enterprise and site level.

service/ retail product sales:

  • partner with the coo and other members of the 10spot leadership team to understand the service revenue and retail product revenue goals (at a network level and at the individual site level).  this includes providing insight on revenue potential at a network and market/site level.  develop marketing strategies and tactics to support goal attainment.  this will include promotions, pricing, and membership initiatives.
  • understand the current product assortment, pricing, packaging and performance.
  • in partnership with the coo and other members of the 10spot leadership team, profitably grow retail product sales by developing a product/ branding/ packing/ pricing strategy and the related marketing plan.  
  • in partnership with the coo and other members of the 10spot leadership team, profitably grow bar service sales by developing a service offering strategy and the related marketing plan.

digital/social:

  • externally, develop and manage all market and customer-facing content strategy, content creation, and refresh for the 10spot website and all social media channels.  this includes managing digital/social channels at the brand level, the location level, and internally facing.

new bar development:

  • lead the sales department and work with the 10spot leadership team to understand franchise development goals and develop strategies, programs, and materials to support franchise sales in various channels including the broker network and national/international franchise shows. 

traffic/new openings:

  • develop and continually improve/adjust robust, multi-dimensional campaigns to support new store openings, meeting/exceeding ambitious targets for brand awareness, guest traffic, and sales.  this includes ensuring the store opening marketing plans are tailored to reflect local market dynamics – demographics and competition. 

marketing budget:

  • using the marketing strategy as a guide, plan, set and manage the annual marketing budget for enterprise-level and site-specific initiatives.
  • project and manage the us and canadian ad fund budget. 

events:

  • plan and execute all key brand-enhancing events including franchisee discovery days, broker events, and the annual 10spot franchisee conference.

partners/media:

  • select, negotiate terms, and manage all external partners including seo/sem support, creative and production support.
  • negotiate media purchases.
  • continuously gather input from franchisees through the franchise communication forum and informal channels to inform the marketing plan.

 

promotions:

  • drive improvements in product and service sales by developing promotions to engage current and new guests, and to drive repeat/regular visits and expand service/product sales.
  • plan and manage all events and promotions, ensuring cross-functional awareness/alignment.
  • on an enterprise level, engage with the cross-functional peers and the franchisee feedback committee to gather input on marketing ideas and promotions. 
  • at a local level, engage with franchise partners to develop market-specific promotion strategies and plans.
  • stay highly attuned to relevant beauty trends, competitor practices, and new entrants to the market – poised to proactively address or respond to opportunities and threats.

internal marketing:

  • develop a multi-facetted plan, including in an internal social channel, to ignite passion for the brand among all 10spotters (employees) and maintain an energized brand-centric culture.
  • partner with the coo and other members of the 10spot leadership team to foster a “culture of sales” across the organization by identifying every sales opportunity for staff and developing messaging and incentive programs to drive sales-generating behaviours.  this will include digital and print messaging as well as leadership communications.

beauty line:

  • develop and execute a multi-facetted plan to grow and develop the beauty line inclusive of production, management of stock and ecommerce.

qualifications: 

  • the ideal candidate is a progressive and agile marketing professional who brings a bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, communications or related fields.  they have ten years of related experience, including 5+ years of senior leadership of a marketing team/function within a high-growth franchise organization.  with a proven track record of developing marketing strategies to fuel transformational growth, the ideal vp of marketing, sales + beauty line can point to the measurable of their work on expanding a franchise network, driving positive traffic trends, and increasing sales.  they have a proven ability to plan/manage budgets, collect/analyze data, select/manage external vendors, and create on-brand events.  an avid social media user, they understands how to leverage available channels to drive brand awareness and traffic. with creative flare and a strong aesthetic sense, they can oversee the development of brand assets and use design software, such as adobe illustrator.  an experienced people leader, the ideal candidate has built and led high-performing marketing teams.  experience in the spa/salon/beauty sector is not necessary, but experience in a brand-centric, service-based franchise operation is required.
